Smith River is known for acres and acres of Easter Lilies and green pastures grazed by both dairy and beef cattle. In fact, Smith River is the area where the earliest farming in Del Norte County began. "The White Gold Rush", as the Smith River lily industry has been called, has grown to the point where the ten largest farms between Smith River and Brookings, Oregon account for 90% of the world's Easter Lily production. Oregon's southern most Port is located on the Pacific Ocean a few miles north of the Oregon-California border; an area known for its mild climate and natural beauty. Located at the mouth of the Chetco River, it has one of the safest entries to the ocean on the west coast. It's a sportsman's paradise and a photographer's dream. Year round ocean fishing for snapper, salmon and albacore tuna as well as three world class rivers within minutes provide outstanding angling and recreational boating. The Port is a working Port with a fleet of commercial vessels that fish for Dungeness crab, tuna, snapper and shrimp. These catches are off loaded daily on our commercial dock systems and are an important element of our overall economy.

Summer concerts in the park series at Azalea Park in Brookings includes concerts running June through September. All the concerts are set for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoons at the bandshell — called "Stage Under the Stars" — in the Azalia Park's natural amphitheater. Admission is free, but buckets are passed for donations to help pay for the artists.

Harris Beach was named after the Scottish pioneer George Harris who settled here in the late 1880s to raise sheep and cattle. The park boasts the largest island off the Oregon coast. Bird Island (also called Goat Island) is a National Wildlife Sanctuary and breeding site for such rare birds as the tufted puffin. The park offers sandy beaches interspersed with rocky outcroppings harboring interesting tidepools with their wide variety of life. Sea stacks dot the ocean just off shore.

Located on the Chetco River. During the year, you can fish, swim and raft, or walk the self-guided Riverview nature trail. The river offers some of the finest fall and winter salmon and steelhead fishing on the south coast. You can plunk from the bank or try your luck on a drift boat. Throughout spring and summer you may see scampering squirrels, soaring osprey, or a family of river otters frolicking in the water.

Chetco Point Park is a large area with thick rye grass, two picnic tables, horseshoe pits . . . and one of the most stunning ocean vistas in this arm of the galaxy.
